National Construction Training Centre, Mount Lucas
LOETB has assumed management of The National Construction Training Centre at Mount Lucas. Currently the Centre focusses primarily on Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Tickets and the transfer of those to the UK equivalent (CPCS)/ on HSE (the UK SafePass).
Construction Skills Certification Scheme
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) provides for the training, assessment, certification and registration of non-craft operatives within the construction sector.
Training:
LOETB has been consulting closely with stakeholders in the construction sector, including the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), to ensure that new training programmes respond to the needs of the industry and are linked to current and future employment opportunities. A new partnership with CIF and its members, City & Guilds, and the Department of Social Protection has developed a Construction Traineeship that will begin this summer. This initiative seeks to fill a recognised gap within the construction industry i.e. shortages in the availability of semi-skilled trades and it does not affect, in any way, existing or planned apprenticeships. It is proposing not only to respond to the skills shortage in certain disciplines, but also afford training and qualification in skills that were heretofore obtained by on the job experience with no formal training or instruction.
