The research, titled \u201cYou Just Stop Trying\u201d, provides an important insight into the literacy experiences of young people aged 12\u201317 across the region.<\/p><p>This collaborative project was supported through the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP), co-funded by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund Plus, alongside Adult Literacy funding from the Government of Ireland and the European Union.<\/p><p>The research was led by Dr. Katie Chapple and brings together the voices of young people, parents, and practitioners to better understand literacy challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0c8411d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"0c8411d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element Matters<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-883469a e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"883469a\" class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Literacy is a fundamental life skill that underpins education, employment, wellbeing, and participation in society.<\/p><p>The research highlights that while literacy is widely recognised as critical to confidence and independence, many young people continue to face significant barriers, including:<\/p><ul><li>Delays in identifying literacy needs<\/li><li>Inconsistent access to supports<\/li><li>The emotional impact of struggling with literacy<\/li><\/ul><p>The findings also show the importance of early intervention, accessible supports, and coordinated responses across schools, youth services, and communities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div Experience<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3939965 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3939965\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b38f742 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b38f742\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At the heart of this research are the voices of young people. Through focus groups, surveys, and consultations, learners shared their lived experiences of literacy in school, at home, and in their communities.<\/p><p>Their insights highlight the importance of:<\/p><ul><li>Supportive relationships and trusted adults<\/li><li>Small group and one-to-one learning<\/li><li>Practical, real-life approaches to literacy<\/li><li>Safe, inclusive environments that build confidence<\/li><\/ul><p>The research also recognises the vital role of youth work and alternative education settings, which often provide flexible, person-centred supports for those who may struggle in mainstream education.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bad75b8 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"bad75b8\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-50a0895 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"50a0895\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Working Together to Make a Difference<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-44c2df2 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"44c2df2\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-75630c9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"75630c9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A key message from the research is the need for strong collaboration.
