Construction Skills for Employment
Construction Skills for Employment (Formwork)
Commencing August 2016
The Construction Skills for Employment (Formwork) Programme, offers the opportunity for unemployed people to gain – over a 26 week period – the skills, qualifications and experience for a career in construction.
Structure:
The programme begins with 8 weeks at the National Construction Training Centre in Mount Lucas where trainees will be given the skills and knowledge necessary to begin work on a construction site – with an emphasis on health and safety and the acquisition of relevant CSCS Cards.
The next 8 weeks consists of on the job training with registered building (sub)contractors where the skills acquired during the initial training period will be utilised in a work environment.
Specific Skills Development (Formwork in this initial programme) follows for 8 weeks with a blended approach between off the job and on the job training. Trainees will complete their assessments on-site during this period and gain an internationally recognised City and Guilds Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Formwork (equivalent to Level 4 on the National Standards Framework).
The final two weeks allows an opportunity for individual trainees to complete their work and for all trainees to develop their work ready skills.
This qualification prepares trainees for work in the construction industry, with a specific focus on formwork. It is intended that subsequent training opportunities will be offered in steel fixing and other elements of construction work.
