Application Assessment Process

LOETB's Further Education and Training Service use a number of assessment tools to ensure that learners are placed on courses at the correct level according to their needs and abilities. The tool helps applicants to make better decisions in choosing a course at the right level which is particularly important for adults re-entering learning. The assessment allows course providers to ensure their course is the right course for a particular applicant, as well as highlighting the learning supports that may be needed. Some centres in LOETB use the assessment tool to decide whether or not a place should be offered while other centres may use it along with an application interview.

The assessment may be or online, and may include assessments in English and/or Maths. The type of assessment will be at the discretion of the Course Co-ordinator.

The online assessment tool also has additional learning resources and exercises that learners can access themselves to improve their levels of ability in English and Maths. Assessment results are only available to the learner and to certain staff members in LOETB who administer the tests.

All applicants for courses will be invited to sit an assessment prior to being considered for a course place. You can get more details on the assessment from the centre to which you have applied.

Your Assessment Appointment

You will have been notified of the location and time of your assessment appointment.  Please attend the venue at least ten minutes before your appointed time and bring photographic proof of identity with you. 

You will have been told whether you need to complete the English or Maths assessment, or both.  The length of time it takes to do the assessment can vary significantly, but if you are doing both assessments, please allow up to two and a half hours to complete. 

Course places cannot be offered to an applicant unless they have completed the assessment(s) and reached the required standard. 

If you cannot attend at the appointed time, please contact the person named in your appointment message as soon as possible and it may be possible to arrange an alternative appointment.
