BKSB

What is BKSB?

BKSB is an online assessment tool that helps LOETB ensure that learners are placed on courses at the correct level according to their needs and abilities.  It helps us ensure that a course  is the right course for you, as well as highlighting any learning supports that may be needed.  We cannot offer you a place on a course unless you have completed the assessment(s) and reached the required standard.

How do I do the Assessment?

Under normal circumstances you would be called to the Centre to take the assessment, but while the Covid-19 restrictions are in place, you can complete the assessment online in your own home (see details below).

How long does it take?

There are two parts to each assessment – the initial assessment and the diagnostic.  There is no time limit, so the length of time it takes to complete can vary, but typically the initial assessment will take you 20 to 40 mins, while the diagnostic part can last from 30 minutes to over an hour.  All applicants must complete the English assessment and you may also be asked to complete the Maths assessment for some courses.

Can I get help with the assessment?

You may not ask anyone to help you complete the assessment.  It is much better for you if we have an accurate result.  The diagnostic part of the assessment helps us identify what you DON’T know, as much as what you do, and it is in your own interests to complete this without assistance.  Consider each question carefully and do your best to answer, but if you do not know the answer, just move on to the next question.

What happens next?

After you complete the assessment you may be offered a place on the course, or you may be called for an interview.  (Interviews will be carried out online or over the phone while Covid restrictions remain in place.)

Your Assessment

You will have received a text message with your log in details.  Please take the assessment as soon as possible, but no later than seven days after you receive your text.  If you cannot do the assessment within that time, please contact Debbie at the email address or telephone number below.  If we do not hear from you and you do not take the assessment, we will assume you are no longer interested in the course.

The short video below explains how to log in and take the test.

Your text message will have stated whether you need to complete the English assessment only, or both English and Maths.  Set aside a time when you will not be disturbed and if you are doing both assessments take a break in between.

Make sure that you have completed both the initial assessment and the diagnostic.   We will check that everything is in order and contact you if we find any issue with your assessment.
